Privacy Policy
Chorus Weather ("Chorus", "we", "us") is an iPhone app made by James Andrew Shaw Ltd. This policy explains what information Chorus uses, why, and what choices you have. The short version: Chorus has no accounts, shows no ads, doesn't track you, and never stores your location.
Who we are
James Andrew Shaw Ltd is the data controller for Chorus. Registered address: 20-22 Wenlock Road, London, N1 7GU. Company number 13781726.

Your location
If you allow it, Chorus uses your iPhone's location to show the forecast where you are. Before your location leaves your device, Chorus rounds it to a grid of about 2 km. Only that rounded position is sent to our server, which uses it to fetch forecasts from our weather data provider and returns them to you.
To show the name of your location (for example, "York"), your iPhone also asks Apple's maps service for the place name, as Apple Maps does.
- We don't store your location, link it to you, or share it with anyone except as needed to fetch your forecast.
- Forecasts are cached briefly (up to about 30 minutes) for each 2 km grid square, so nearby users share the same result. That cache holds forecasts for a square, not information about who asked.
- Our server doesn't keep logs of requests, so your rounded location and IP address aren't recorded. Its only logs count how many forecasts it fetches and contain no location.
- You can use Chorus without sharing your location by searching for a place instead, and you can turn location access off at any time in iOS Settings.
Place search runs on your iPhone using Apple's maps service. Places you save are stored only on your device.
Anonymous usage analytics
To understand how Chorus is used and to improve it, Chorus sends a small number of anonymous events. For example, when onboarding is completed, when the Plus screen is shown, or when a widget is added for the first time. These events:
- never include your location, place names or anything you type;
- are attached to a random identifier that is hashed on your device, so they can't be linked to you;
- include basic device details such as app version, iOS version, device model and language.
We use TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service based in Germany, to process these events on our behalf. You can turn analytics off at any time in Settings › About › Share anonymous usage data. When it's off, nothing is sent.
Purchases
Chorus Plus subscriptions are sold and managed by Apple. We never see your payment details or your Apple ID. Your iPhone tells Chorus whether you have an active subscription, and the anonymous analytics above record purchase outcomes (for example, that a trial was started) without identifying you.
What we don't do
- No accounts or sign-in.
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No tracking across other companies' apps or websites.
- We don't sell or rent any information.
Service providers
- Cloudflare hosts our server and website. Your requests pass through Cloudflare's network, which processes your IP address to deliver them.
- Open-Meteo provides the weather data. Our server sends it only the rounded grid position, never your IP address or any identifier.
- TelemetryDeck processes the anonymous analytics described above.
- Apple handles purchases, subscriptions, place search and place names.
Some of these providers operate outside the UK. Where they do, they're bound by appropriate safeguards under UK data protection law.
Legal basis
We use your rounded location to provide the service you ask for (the forecast). We use anonymous analytics on the basis of our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the app, and you can opt out at any time.
Children
Chorus isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights to access, correct, delete or object to the use of personal information about you. Because Chorus doesn't hold information that identifies you, there's usually nothing for us to retrieve, but you're welcome to contact us at support@chorusweather.app. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top.
